Apple is preparing to enter the smart home market again, with reports suggesting the tech giant could release a smart display as early as 2025.
According to a Bloomberg report, the device is expected to run on a new operating system called “homeOS,” based on the Apple TV’s tvOS, similar to the software behind the HomePod.
The display will reportedly support key Apple apps, such as Calendar, Notes, and Home, and will have a prototype with magnets for wall-mounting. It may also feature Apple Intelligence, a function currently absent in Apple’s HomePods.
Rumors of a smart home display have circulated for some time, with earlier suggestions ranging from a HomePod with a screen to more futuristic ideas, like a robotic arm that swivels during video calls.
However, recent rumors point to a more straightforward device, potentially a square-shaped “HomeAccessory,” with gesture controls from afar, as reported by 9to5Mac.
Additionally, code references to homeOS have been spotted by MacRumors.
Apple’s upcoming device may offer a more streamlined experience compared to using an iPad as a dedicated smart home controller, which has proven challenging for some users. An official launch date remains uncertain, but the release seems to be approaching.
