Deathstroke joins ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’ in epic final update, coming Jan ’25

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will receive its final update in January 2025, bringing an end to its post-launch support. The game’s fourth and last season will include the addition of Deathstroke, the iconic mercenary and antihero. Known for his skills with both blades and firearms, Deathstroke (aka Slade Wilson) will bring a dynamic, versatile combat style to the game. His anti-grav tech will allow him to dash through the air, adding a new layer of mobility to the character.

In addition to the new character, the update will introduce a medieval-inspired Elseworld setting, where the Squad faces off against the invading Brainiac. This shift in setting is expected to provide a refreshing change of pace as the supervillains are thrust into a completely different environment

Offline mode to ensure longe

Alongside the final season, the game will also receive an offline mode, allowing players to experience the single-player content even after online support ends. Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Games have confirmed that while the servers will remain active for the time being, the offline mode will ensure that players can continue to enjoy the game for years to come, no matter what happens in the future. This addition is seen as a major positive for players who wish to keep the game in their library.

A mixed launch and early success

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launched in February 2024 following multiple delays, marking a departure from Rocksteady Studios’ previous Batman Arkham games. The game introduced a live-service model and seasonal updates aimed at keeping players engaged. Despite initially strong sales, with the game remaining in the top 20 best-selling titles in the US through October, player engagement quickly began to decline. Warner Bros. admitted to a $200 million loss on the game, underscoring the struggles faced by the title post-launch.

The value of offline mode and a price cut

While the announcement of the game’s support ending is disappointing for fans, the offline mode provides a significant upside, allowing players to enjoy the game without worrying about its eventual discontinuation. This is especially notable given the recent trend of online games being shut down permanently, such as PlayStation’s Concord shooter. As of now, the Digital Deluxe Edition of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is available for just $5 on the Xbox Store, making it an attractive option for those who haven’t yet played the game.

What’s next for Rocksteady?

The future of Rocksteady Studios remains uncertain. Currently, the team is reportedly assisting Avalanche Software on a new definitive edition of Hogwarts Legacy. This enhanced version of the popular game is said to include a story expansion with new quests and activities, though no release date has been confirmed. As for the possibility of a new project from Rocksteady, it is unclear when the studio will return to work on another major title, but fans are hopeful for future projects in the Batman: Arkham universe.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is available now on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5
